Zakiyya is an associate lawyer with a diverse litigation background and a growing practice spanning multiple areas of law. She brings a strong foundation in advocacy, legal research, and strategic problem-solving to her work, drawing on her experience representing the Crown in complex matters before the Tax Court of Canada (Informal and General Procedures), the Federal Court, and the Federal Court of Appeal.
Zakiyya earned her Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School after completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary, where she graduated with honours with a degree in Law and Society and a minor in Sociology. She articled and worked with the Department of Justice in British Columbia, where she developed her skills as a litigator and gained experience navigating complex legal issues.
While her early practice focused on tax litigation, Zakiyya now applies that experience to a broader range of legal matters. She is particularly valued for her thoughtful, detail-oriented approach and her ability to analyze complex issues and translate them into clear, practical advice for clients.
In addition to her legal work, Zakiyya has been deeply involved in advancing equity and inclusion within the profession. She previously served as Co-Chair of the Diversity, Inclusivity and Action Committee at the Department of Justice and has spoken on panels addressing the evolving practice of law and the intersection of mental health and the legal profession.
Zakiyya is pleased to be re-establishing her roots in Calgary and contributing to the local legal community. She is committed to providing pragmatic, client-focused advocacy and remains open to resolving matters both inside and outside of the courtroom.
Outside of her practice, Zakiyya enjoys spending time outdoors, attending spin classes, baking, and connecting with friends and family.
